On May 23, 2023, the law of May 4, 2023 inserting Book XIX “Consumer Debts” into the Code of Economic Law was published in the Belgian Official Gazette. The law of May 4, 2023 inserts book XIX “Consumer debts” into the WER.

It provides context for certain consequences of late payment of a consumer's debts towards companies. It contains the general rules for a consumer's payment arrears.

On the other hand, it deals with and updates the amicable recovery of consumer debts by the creditor or by a third party. Specific rules for the amicable collection of debts from consumers have been drawn up.

This has consequences for the General Terms and Conditions of many companies. That is why Wanted Law has drawn up the specific clause for you regarding non-payment of invoices, which you must include in your General Terms and Conditions to comply with this law.
