Cynthia Nowé contributes to family law study day

On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, the Family Law Section of the Dutch-speaking Brussels Bar will hold a study day on how family and youth courts operate. Entitled “The Legal Profession and Family Courts: Between Ambition and Practice”, the event will bring together lawyers, judges and academics at Huizingen Castle.

Cynthia Nowé, a partner at WANTED LAW Beersel, is a member of the Family Law Section and is organising the study day together with five other section members. She is helping to bring lawyers, judges and academics into conversation about the local operation, strengths and challenges of family courts.

Family law operates within the same legal framework everywhere, but practice often differs from court to court. For lawyers working across districts, these local differences can sometimes make a world of difference.

This study day brings together lawyers, magistrates, and academics to exchange experiences, share insights, and better understand one another. The focus lies primarily on academic findings and scientific reflections on the functioning of family and juvenile courts.

At the same time, they hope to give a voice to the results of the prior survey conducted within the various bar associations. By connecting academic insights with the experiences and concerns of the field, they aim to provide a first impetus for a broader discussion about what is happening within the diverse bar associations.

This study day is therefore not only a moment of reflection but hopefully also the start of a follow-up process, in which the insights and discussions of the day can be further deepened and translated into practice.
